Finnish 1891 'Ring' type stamps were made from Russian stamps adding special ring-dot patterns to the design.
In some values the dots are very small, in some values bigger just like here. Sometimes the dot is not fully colored and looks like another ring. This is usually ok.

Because Ring stamps are more valuable than similar Russian stamps, con-artists have made some money adding ring designs to Russian stamps.
Here a very nice Russian 4kop stamp has been destroyed. The dots inside the rings are too big and a little messy. The NE ring design is positioned slightly higher than NW. The postmark is Russian, not Finnish.

This stamp has just been sold on eBay. I was watching it, but finally made no bids. No, I did NOT observe the 'added' rings. Your eyes are very sharp, Juha! Guess you bought it for your own collection.

Good guessing, Bjorn.
Sharp eyes are a professional advantage. And that is why I like to dig out small but easy-to-see details which reveal fakes.

Would be interesting to a closer scan from the lower half of this stamp. Is the russian postmark manipulated or added later on?

Morten, here you go!
I see neither manipulation nor reason to do so.
It very much appears to me (though this is not my turf) that this 'Finnish 1891 Ring stamp' has been cancelled somewhere in Russia in 1890.

After all, it looks like T in SW corner has been retouched to cover the added ring pattern.

So, then it is a used stamp with added rings. 1890 is quite early use for 1891 stamp :-)

No doubt. The rings are not exactly placed and the distance between ring and center dot is too small.

Added another stamp. Also here the added rings have not been placed in full symmetry.

Added pic 5:
Another 4kop with 'Ring' patterns painted on the stamp.
See SE corner!

A good lesson on the subject 'all is not as it appears':

Having examined the stamp in pic 5 I have to admit I was wrong.
Seen from the scan the ring in SE corner seemed to be over the postmark. The truth is, the ring has been printed so deep in the paper that the postmark did not touch the bottom of the impression. Hence no ink on the ring.

Thanks Jon for your opinion. It made me examine the stamp properly.
